Cafe Max
published on 13th May, 2009

You owe it to yourself to walk the 20 minutes past Ravesi’s up Campbell Parade, because good things are happening on the beach end of Bondi Road. Flying Squirrel started it, then came the cavernous Rum Diaries and now there’s a new cafe called Max. Though slightly sparse inside, Max’s real charm lies in the secret deck out back. The simple wooden furniture and wide tables are highly conducive to broadsheets in the mid-morning sun.**The menu is one of those moreish affairs geared towards breakfasts (try the buttermilk hotcakes; or eggs with spicy baked beans and aged cheddar). Come lunch, Max isn’t afraid to attempt a Wagyu beef sandwich. Almost everything is organic (this is Bondi after all) which means you can feel less guilty about ordering bacon and eggs on turkish toast. Round these parts, even the bad things are so good.
