‘The New Yorker’ has outlived many of its compatriots keeping true to it’s post war roots. At a time when community eateries slowly disappear, this one has managed to mainstay the gentrified, burgeoning hub of Kellett Street and Bayswater Road.

In this sparsely-clad diner with plastic cafeteria chairs, you’ll find one of the cheapest menus this side of 1950. For a place that hasn’t changed since, well forever, The New Yorker still manages to pull some young folk in…but only those brave enough to mingle with the motley crew of locals.**The menu is a deprived student’s dream…an eclectic mix of schnitzels, steaks, bangers and mash, and for fine diners, a selection of fresh and Kilpatrick oysters. You won’t pay more than $13 and that’s for the Fillet steak.

For less than a pastizzi you’ll get some hot buttered toast or a jug of lemon cordial to go with your main…keeping in mind all ‘Light Refreshments’ are served with tea or coffee…or perhaps a glass wine to go with your $3.50 tomato and cheese toastie.
