I walked into Omertà and was greeted with low lighting, white-clothed tables on one side of the room, and a marble bar running along the other. That scored instant points for the little bar; it’s a well-known fact that mood-lit rooms with a combination of tiling, marble, linen and wooden chairs make people happy.
This cosy joint did itself more favours with a comprehensive wine list full of Italian varietals that are almost as fun to pronounce as they are to drink, and a long selection of sharing plates. Prosciutto di Parma, slow-cooked snake beans and salt cod fritters make it almost like Italian tapas.**The combination of a lush room and decadent menu create an environment that prompts you to act cosmopolitan and sophisticated (until you get boozy and spill negronis on the tiles).
The whole idea with Omertà is to be hush-hush, but this is a place worth talking up.
