Portuguese fare is not (despite the over-proliferation of certain fast food outlets) only about the chicken burger. Trust me I’ve been to Portug… Petersham. They also do whole, half and quarter chickens – all flat and slow roasted over hot coals with a proven selection of herbs. This ensures that it tastes amazing even if, god forbid, you forgo the house-made chilli sauce.

**But then this chicken shop is not, despite the name, only about chicken. Poke your head beyond the front counter and you’ll be rewarded. Not just by a restaurant, but by clams and cod, the real heroes of Iberian cuisine. The house special is by far the standout; clams, cod and chicken thighs swim with potatoes and pickles in a white wine sauce that almost demands you to drink it.

Just don’t turn up too late if you want something to eat or somewhere to sit.
