Pompei’s
published on 10th May, 2009

Pompeii was the ancient city destroyed by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in Southern Italy. Legend has it that the volcano erupted so suddenly that recovered ruins found couples fossilised, mid-coitus. This is very interesting but completely irrelevant, as Pompei’s in Bondi is actually named after its owner, George Pompei (hence the different spelling). But, if such a tragedy were to occur, I would be happily preserved, hunch-backed and open mouthed over one of his pizzas.**Revel in the salty sweet goodness of pancetta, mascarpone and mushroom pizza, or fly the Italian flag and go the classic buffalo mozzarella, tomato and basil. It doesn’t get much better than these tasty discs, washed down with a chilled Peroni. Sit outside and enjoy the view of the bib-wearing diners at the neighbouring BBQ rib restaurant, safe in the knowledge that they will look way more ridiculous in their bibs if we should all be suddenly buried by dust.
