There is a lot to be said for ‘above awning retail’. This is because, for one, there is always a view. And for two, traversing a flight of stairs brings a strange sense of anticipation – a feeling that you’ve stumbled on something before the rest of the world.
**Above the Hopetoun Hotel, Rider serves out Mexican fare from an old English kitchen. As music wafts up from below, you recline on a couch with a cold Pacifico and a mex feast. Beef burritos, fish tacos and buoyant salads are all well represented in flavour and girth. Thank goodness steps are also conducive to appetite.*

*This isn’t proven, but we suspect it is true.
