During my long and luxurious career as an altar girl at St. Martin’s Parish I learnt a thing or two about a thing or two. Number one: religious ceremonies are great celebrations even if you are not religious. Number two: the ABC’s series Brides of Christ was an exceptionally modern and realistic approach to the professions of priesthood and nunhood and it made being a bride of Christ look incredibly appealing. Brides of Christ have fun! They are promiscuous! They can also be trendy! Subtly combining fashion and Catholicism in apparel appropriate for everyday pastoral duties.
Perth/London label Ant!podium‘s new season ‘Brides of Christ’ has arrived on our shores just in time for the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle. Inspired by religious ceremony, designer and Australian expat Geoffrey J. Finch has played altar boy to a seductive selection of fabrics – from silk crepe and silk jersey, to matte sequin and trimmings of crucifixes and love hearts. Look book here good lookers. Highlights include ‘The Devil Inside Dress’ in a rosy ‘Eliza Day’ print! A ‘Rosary’ t-shirt covered in those roses us gurls used to have on our socks! And ‘The Power of Glove Dress’ where ‘a rather skillful gloved hands motif’ prevents exposure of the boobs. Brisbane will soon be overrun by hundreds of brides of Christ! Framing their forbidden fruit in a pair of ‘Nun of That’ lightweight trousers.
