Cosmic Wonder Lightsource 3
published on 19th August, 2009

The other day I overheard a film director ask a sound guy to “make the light feel more repressed”. At first I couldn’t get my head around it. “Light doesn’t have a sound,” I thought, “light is for your eyes, silly!”. But before I could turn around and tell said film director that she needed to go back to sense school and TAKE NOTES THIS TIME, I came across a copy of Cosmic Wonder Free Press and started to ponder the phenomenon a little more deeply.

Cosmic Wonder, as a label, is all about light, you see. Their clothes, publications, art and spaces play with the idea that colours and materials can reverberate with the light of the natural world, “expressing the joy, pleasure and brightness of life and love”.**So this made me rethink the director’s ‘repress’ request. Because while fashion is primarily for eyes, Cosmic Wonder’s clothes actually engage pretty much all the senses – the look, feel and smell of them collectively embodies a philosophy of lightness. And if you can wear light, then surely you can hear it? Riiight?

So I kept walking, realising that perhaps things weren’t as black and white as I’d thought.

It’s not often that fashion can rattle your thoughts like that, so we suggest that you keep an eye out for the next batch of Cosmic Wonder goodness at Via Alley. It’ll be making its way to our shores in the next couple of weeks. Just a heads up to get your head ready.
