It’s hard to walk a metre in this city without seeing a leather jacket. Yesterday I saw a kid in a pram wearing one. True story. And he wasn’t cool. He was wearing a nappy!
But you don’t give up on leathers just because they’re everywhere. That’s loser talk. What you do, if you happen to have a spare $600, is get a jacket no-one else in the world has. And you get it from Friedrich Gray’s new studio store.
Apparently they get a lot of requests for leather jackets they don’t make anymore, so they decided to open up the archives and let people pick and choose everything from fabric, lining and cut to ‘hardware’ (buckles, snaps and zippers). According to designer Ben Pollit, "It creates a personal and emotional connection to the garment, which is something we feel strongly about."
It’ll take around two to three weeks for your second skin to arrive, but when it does, oh man are you going to lord it over that little bed wetting, wannabe Kenickie.
