Make Believe, Petals to the Metal
published on 27th July, 2009

Have you ever wondered what happened to ‘once upon a time’ when it grew up and got a real job? Amber Joy and Ebony Fleur, or more infamously, Ambony, designers of jewellery label Make Believe, embrace happily ever after with canny wit. Inspired by Tokyo’s underground music and fashion scene, Make Believe was born of a fascination with vivid colours, intricate quirks and hands-on craft.

Determined not to succumb to the monotonous grind of 9-5 (no matter how romantic Dolly made it sound), Make Believe is always injecting fantasy into the mundane. In a perfectly paired collaboration with the idiosyncratic Geoffrey J Finch, they shocked audiences with their absurd take on jewellery, fashioning giant ‘A’ necklaces from tampons and gold chains for Antipodium’s runway show at RAFW.**Make Believe’s latest collection, ‘Petals to the Metal‘ is composed of blossoming resin flowers in loud shades, duplicitous rodents and mysteriously promising amphibians. The collection (originally shot against the backdrop of Tokyo in April by blogger Dan Bailey and featuring band girls Trippple Nippples), is nothing less than a treasure chest for cheeky princesses.
