Ritson Scarves

Looking at the artworks of sisters Julia and Joanne Ritson, you can just imagine them as babies, being given a handful of jelly beans to play with. Before long, Joanne’s would be shmooshed into cascading rainbows and blobby colour ponds. Julia’s would be neatly ordered into colour-coordinated squares and rectangles, perhaps using a plastic ruler.

The effect lingers to this day – both like their hues arrayed in wildly different yet complementary ways. And both have created a range of limited edition silk scarves, perfectly capturing the contradiction on pure Chinese silk with hand-rolled edges. You’d hope the hands of the Queen herself rolled these little numbers; they ain’t cheap. But each is super, absolutely and completely limited with only 25 being printed of each. And when you think of it being an artwork and cravat in one, the tag doesn’t hurt so much.

But what kind of baby do you have inside of you: one that takes to their lollies with abstract gusto, or one itching for their first protractor? You decide.
