In this age of digitisation, there’s an almost troubling democracy to photography. Every man and his miniature toy poodle can take mediocre photos with a digital camera and digitally add 57 gazillion layers in photoshop. Norwegian fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo says no, I’ll do it the old-fashioned way, thanks. If I want a life-size Pac-Man, I’ll make a life-size Pac Man. If I want to set Eva Herzigova on fire, I’ll get Alexander McQueen to do it for the Florence Biennale. And if Niti Sawhney‘s face just isn’t interesting enough, then I’ll make a plaster cast of his head and shoot that instead. Without putting it through that computer machine you’ve all been telling me about.
**Sundsbo’s bizarre visual innovation has led to his work being featured in the Festival de Hy√®res and The Archaeology of Elegance, and now he’s inverting his whole world on itself to make fashion photography become fashion. Wooah! Following in a long line of covetable collaborations with other contemporary artists, Sundsbo lends three of his iconic prints to Surface to Air for an extremely limited-edition collection of silk dresses, tees, and bags. These pieces are set to hit the interwebs any day now, so it goes without saying you should be stalking the site with your plastic. I could tell you to save your pennies but that would be like telling a child not to put a bean up their nose.
