Breaks In The Sun, Weinland
published on 19th May, 2009

Portland is a strange town. It nearly drowns in late twenties / early thirties hipsters. While living there the only congregation of old people I ever spotted was at a Starbucks and, even then, when I looked into the window they scurried off – ashamed of being seen. Maybe it’s this lack of oldies that makes the music scene flourish, and if there are more bands like Weinland to be found, then I wholly support the ageism of the Northwest.**Floating between Neil Young inspired rock ballads and intimate heartstring-pulling cuts, Adam Shearer’s voice is a constant focal point. And considering the sound is pouring out of a big, bearded, bear of a man, it’s completely unexpected. Breaks In The Sun is one of the best showings from the Portland scene in ages, and helps to remind us that old people are always dragging the rest of us down.
