Circle Pit, ‘Bruise Constellation’
published on 30th March, 2010

The nexus of The Rolling Stones, Royal Trux, Sonic Youth, and The Velvet Underground forms an eternally cool pentagram of dirty art rock, filled with scuzzed-out riffs, and faded denim.

Sydney’s Circle Pit take up this narco-tradition and run with it on their debut Bruise Constellation, carrying on the tradition of street poetry and swagger.

Comparisons are regularly made to notorious junkie fashion
duo Royal Trux (and their successor, RTX). Angie and Jack’s old band Kiosk opened for RTX in March 2007; later that year Circle Pit debuted – with a sound, lyrical subject matter, and fashion sense very similar to Royal Trux.

Yet Bruise Constellation – one of the best album titles in years – stands on its own two feet. Cool lyrics, great songwriting, raw power, and sonically, it incorporates influences from a wide berth of great indie & underground sounds (Germs, Beat Happening, The Replacements). Maybe it’s not too late to find a new look?
