Collars: wonderful, I like mine rounded and sometimes ironed. Bones: great for logical reasons. Collarbones: hell yes, and thank the lord that Iconography has finally been released. After numerous teasing EPs and singles, Marcus Whale and Travis Cook have put together a seamless debut full-length album, featuring new unreleased tracks as well as the latest single ‘Don Juan’ and corkers from previous EPs, such as ‘Kill Off The Vowels’.
I saw the two boys in action a few weeks ago for the first time. So you could say I had waited a while, but still, I was not entirely ready for the kickin’ good time that was provided: wild head-nodding, some incredible dance moves – both dirty and clean – and a sound so big and imaginative I could hardly help myself closing my eyes, nodding and looking like I was enjoying it a bit too much.
Iconography offers all this and so much more. Noticeably more ambient than previous releases, the Adelaide/Sydney experimental duo – yes, they live in different cities and send each other samples and ideas online – has made the art of sampling sound way too easy. Just the right levels of harmonies, stuttering beats and sounds from the depths are blended to produce moments of electronic perfection – eleven of them to be precise -which melt into each other from start to finish, the way albums were intended to be. So get a copy, like, now.
