Get Colour, Health

HEALTH are our scientists, engineers and architects. The LA band make noise music with almost mathematical precision, building and layering, creating gargantuan blocks of sordid energy. The turgid sounds of screeching car wheels or upset babies come and go with such German-transport-like efficiency that Get Color could be a creepy MY DISCO castaway.

HEALTH’s third album is the clearest indication yet that the noise band, refreshingly, know exactly what they are doing at every moment. Strange? It’s true. They don’t just massacre a guitar and call it artful experimentation – they flow chart that shit. As a result, Get Color – particularly the brilliant ‘In Heat’ and ‘Die Slow’- is accessible noise; eerie and tied to a pulse beat like Liars’ They Were Wrong So We Drowned. In a bizzaro neverland or a backwards nightclub it could be dance music. Thankfully, we don’t have to think of it that way. Great noise: an oxymoron? Certainly not – and Get Color is proof.
