Sally Seltmann says in her album presser that she "wanted to create songs with a classic radio sing-a-long feel". And with that, she pretty much sums up the vibe of her new album Heart That’s Pounding (her first released under her own name rather than the New Buffalo moniker).
Like a one-woman girl group, she croons through every song over layer-upon-layer of hooks and harmonies. Yet, unlike most pop songs, the lyrics on ‘Harmony to My Heartbeat’ feel refreshingly honest, earnest and heartfelt – without being over-the-top sickly. Even when singing about gettin’ the blues on ‘Dark Blue Angel’, Seltmann manages to sound pretty clap-your-hands happy.
So you can imagine when she sings about her new baby on the album opener, she sounds so euphoric she’s about to burst out of her skin. If you’re feeling a lack of Vitamin D and a touch of the SADs this winter – you could pretty much warm your frostly little hands and heart on the smiley-love-and-sunshine vibes coming off this album.
