Monotonix, Where Were You When It Happened?
published on 13th March, 2010

If you were sloshing around Golden Plains last weekend, you’re probably listening to this album right now. Israeli threesome Monotonix were a memorable highlight of the weekend, outshining bigger names on the line-up with their unabashed enthusiasm, huge hairdos and tiny shorts.

These guys sure made the most of their stage-time, performing their entire set from the muddy mosh pit and crowd surfing while playing their guitar and drums. At one point, the dude set up his stool and drum on top of the crowd and lead us in a chant of his favourite Aussie identities, from AC/DC to Rod Laver. They somehow kept it together in a captivatingly loose fashion until the whole thing was cut short by event organisers for being too fucking wild and dangerous.

Where Were You When It Happened? captures the raw energy of that set (and probably every other show they play). It’s simple, bare bones, no-brainer rock’n'roll, played by three hairy Israeli dudes, and it is awesome.
