In a post-Bikini Kill/pre-Le Tigre era, when seemingly all on offer was the Julie Ruin album and some old Babes In Toyland and Team Dresch records, I crossed paths with Sleater-Kinney and realised I was onto something big. Apparently, the rest of the world had caught onto this Portland 3-piece years earlier, with their self-titled debut effort placing the band at the top of the list in every women-in-rock anthology to hit the stores.
**Last year saw the release of their seventh full-length album, THE WOODS: a riff-heavy and melodicrock ‘n’ roll opus, where every track fights with another for the title of firm favourite. The critics seem to agree. Take a look at any review – you’ve never seen so many stars in your life.
The band are back on our shores this month and if the Big Day Out isn’t your cup of tea, next week holds your chance to catch them live at the Gaelic Club. If their last visit is anything to go by then get ready for the best live show of the summer.
Tickets are available online and from the usual retailers.
