These New Puritans emerged from the soil of the English seaside resort, Southend, in 2006.

In person, they cut a striking silhouette: svelte, clean-cut, stoic and unassuming-like, but once they push, pluck and bang at their instruments – what a fresh hell they unleash!** Urgent, albeit impassive, voices are juxtaposed with jarring guitar and meticulously synced drums. Beneath it all, malfunctioning electronic sounds convey the infallibility of machines amidst the human clockwork. Songs such as ‘C16th’ and the hypnotic 15-minute ‘Navigate Navigate’ teeter on the cusp of control. Ultimately, it’s the unpredictability of whether These New Puritans will make it through the song intact that makes their music a joy to listen to, even if it is fraught with anxiety.

*PLUVIALl EP and ‘Navigate Navigate’ single now available. Debut album BEAT PYRAMID available November 5 2007.
