Featuring rainbow light refracting crystals on the cover, Decoder Ring wear their hearts on their sleeves with They Bind The Stars, And The Wild Team, their fourth-ish release to date, soundtracks and E.P.s included. Having dropped the dancey synth loops and vocals from 2005′s Fractions, the new album is all guitar washes, twinkling notes and steady builds. In fact, listening to this album, you can almost understand the wait between go arounds from one of Sydney’s most exciting outfits. The tracks all have similar drives and dramatic arcs, but what binds this album is that it takes its time.**It’s hard not to describe instrumental music as cinematic, and Decoder Ring’s songs are definitely the soundtrack to day-break lens flares, midnight car trips and breathless moments in high density metro pedestrian traffic. There’s a lot of space in these tracks, and I for one am willing to take the time to explore them.
