Weekly Mixtape #19
published on 29th July, 2010

Jonny Nails co-runs a great blog called Polaroids of Androids. Pretty sure you’ve heard of it. They know a lot about music, and they like to share it. They also like to use the word c*nt heaps in their write ups. We love Jonny forever now because he made us a mixtape at the last minute. He also answered a few questions:

What makes a great mixtape?

I think the key is to mix it up. Not mix it. DJs aren’t cool. VARIETY. A sm-orgy-board of flavours. Slow shit for the ladies. Hard gangster rap songs for the fellas and summer vibes so the nerds get off the walls and pull on their unworn XXL crunk pants. That’s life.

What’s your favorite song on the mix, and why?

My favourite song of all time changes from week to week. Right now it’s anything that Horse MacGyver, Assassins 88 and TV Colours do. Q: How real is Canberra right now? A: VERY real. Political life.

The whole 2010 Life should be defined by that OoOoO tune. It’s like 25/7 summer. Without all the sand inbetween my toes. And the sand up in my hoes. Life.

Top 5 songs / albums to listen to in the rain?

1. anything by Leonard Cohen
2. anything about Frightened Rabbit
3. the Naked On The Vague "Mickey Mouse" tape
4. just any slow/gentle/suicidal vibe
5. or experimental ambient shit… "headphones music"

Do you still buy CDs?

I still buy a lot of vinyl. Because vinyl is timeless. Like good head and Oreos. Don’t try that shit at the same time. Bitches hate crumbs in their hair when they’re doing you an honorable service. Life.

What’s your favourite Sydney band?

At the moment it’s Royal Headache on the punk days and Crab Smasher or Horse MacGyver on the more adventurous days.

Can you explain the internet for us?

Mate, the Internet is Life. And life is easy. It’s also acts as a suitable visual accompaniment while listening to Gucci Mane mixtapes and eating Oreos. Life.

What genre film will the bio-pic of Jonny’s life be, and who will play the leading roles?

It’ll be a rom-com/action blockbuster with heaps of shit special effects, starring Jason Segal (circa 2007) as Jonny.
