Working predominantly in sculpture, installation and the occasional performance, Marley Dawson constructs scenarios. I mean this in the most literal sense possible. Actual physical constructions of an interactive scenario. Over the years he’s constructed a shed for the iconic Australian dad; an operable dirt-bike track for art types to duel out their differences and a rec room fully equipped with pool table, bar fridge and dartboard, but elevated out of reach. He’s also played a few silly pranks on his suspecting audience, and all this was done within the four white walls of a gallery space.**As a body of work, Dawson’s art remains rooted in themes of masculinity. He is also not shy about taking up a lot of room with his work, so space and displacement is an obvious subject. Step into Marley Dawson’s constructed, peripheral reality, and surrender control of your experience.
