db project

I used to loathe DIY stuff. It started in the 90s with Our House when Shirley tried to show me how to make a doorframe, a stepladder and other "useful things for around the garage". Honestly, who is ever going to do any of that stuff themselves? In fact, who has a garage? I think, however, that the new team of directors at db might have felt a little differently.

db is the latest artist run project space (or initiative) to surface on the Sydney DIY gallery scene. The plan is to present monthly solo exhibitions as well as group exhibitions that couple emerging artists with established curators. Like true artists, they only work weekends and then only between the hours of 2 and 6, but they’re bending the rules a little bit for their opening exhibition. Performance and video artist, Anthea Behm’s work will occupy the db space while Andrew Liversidge’s installation of ‘small works on paper’ will occupy the db/tp project space (otherwise known as the toilet). Duchamp move over – this is post-modern, DIY art purism.
