From Earth to the Universe
published on 7th September, 2009

Current interpretations of astronomical observations indicate that the age of the universe is 13.73 billion years. There are several theories on the fate of the universe, most with silly names. Just as the beginning was ‘The Big Bang’, the end could be ‘The Big Crunch’, ‘The Big Freeze’ or ‘The Big Rip’ – all of which remind us of our impending demise, however far away.

Maybe the universe won’t even even have a complete end. The ‘multi-verse’ theory states that our universe is merely one Big Bang among an infinite number of simultaneously expanding Big Bangs, resulting in parallel universes. All you need to travel from universe to universe, is a wormhole.

Seems easy enough, but try finding one.**The Powerhouse Museum’s showcase of interstellar images begins with our solar system and continues out to the dark realms beyond the Milky Way. Giant projections and large scale prints backed with LED lighting construct an incredible journey through space and time. It’s about considering how far away some of these figments are, and how long they have travelled to actually come into our view.
