GAME IS GOOD unites four Sydney-based female artists in a collaborative throw down of creative moves. Lauren Brincat, Rachel Fuller, Michaela Gleave and Kate Mitchell build rafts, open and close windows, lop away at trees and blow up balloons, perpetually testing boundaries and teasing reality until it bends. The exhibition invokes the playfulness of gaming, coupled with assertiveness, a sense of wilful competition and a desire to win.**While the subject matter spans Indiana Jones to gender performitivity, the nature of this ‘game of art’ reflects sociologist Pierre Bourdieu‘s notion of field, capital and habitus. These artists have embodied their field to make creating art instinctual. We are spectators as they explore the limits of somatic experience, regardless of the risk.
Win or lose? I say a hands-down win.
