In The Shadows

Beci Orpin must draw in her dreams. There can’t be enough hours in the day and her CV is fat enough for five people. Dabbling in illustration, graphics and textiles, Beci has designed prints for Gorman and Mambo, fashioned her own label, Princess Tina, taken part in (and curated) gallery exhibitions from Melbourne to NYC, not to mention conceived some of the cutest characters this side of Tokyo. Feel like an underachiever? Ok we’ll stop.
**Beci’s debut at Monster Children, IN THE SHADOWS, is the stuff of folk tales and uneasy sleep. Keys, candles and ravens are signature figures, moving away from the nursery rhymes of her past work and into the night. A 3D wooden tree, installed especially for the exhibition will shadow over sculptured forms and collage to form a thicker, darker collection, but still with Orpin’s stamp. It’s a venture into the fairytale dusk, speckled with owls, spiders, and if you can make the opening, a swig of Redback moonshine.
