The assemblage technique seems to be very common in contemporary sculpture. Not only here, but all over the world. Hell, some of my favourite sculptors work with assemblage. It takes little to no technical skill, but can be very effective.

Michelle Nikou assembles in an out of the ordinary way. She takes everyday objects – toilet paper, carrots, things like that – and groups them, configures them. She even uses a label-maker to clarify her categorisations. She then takes a different step: she casts everything, in resin, bronze or lead.**These once organic or functional objects descend into a quasi-surrealistic, functionless form. A state of heavy physical presence where their existence is almost absurd compared to their former (in)significance.
