Science regards phenomenon as any observable occurrence. A crystal is just an arrangement of atoms. Mikala Dwyer‘s phenomena, however,  are actually extraordinary, throwing the rigidness of scientific rationale out the window and exploring the magical side of structure and existence.

Her recent work shows a renewed concern with the possibilities of sculpture. The aptly titled Empty Sculpture awakens our sense of artificiality and naturalness. Completely transparent but surprisingly substantial, the sculptures feel like an enclosed, alternate world. It might be an empty world, but it is a world nonetheless. Almost inevitably, you end up lost in a dimension of your own thoughts – a place of nonsensical dialogue between the work and the viewer.**Dwyer’s installations are analogue to children’s playgrounds, and it seems we’re not the only ones to have noticed this. She has been commissioned to design a children’s playground in Casula, with the construction concept loosely based on a giant that died, leaving behind nothing but bones.
