Amidst the concrete corridors and lucid glass laneways of the ‘2 Dank Street’ institution, many a stimulating thing may be found. Here, is a newly-opened, suitably-named homage to Waterloo’s postcode, Studio 20/17. The hidden cache, merging gallery with workshop, houses contemporary objects alongside obscure and ornate forms of jewellery.**Raised by tool-filled aproneers Melanie Ihnen and Bridget Kennedy, the space promotes an innocent romance with craftsmanship, contemporary form and wearability.
Lady-sweet or androgynous, the wearable array is vast and whilst perusing or purchasing, the artisans will continue building before your eyes.
Studio 20/17 hosts an opening bash and exhibition on Wednesday April 30 with works by Emma Fielden. Expect hand-crafted jewels and objects with graphic qualities and delicate surface textures said to be pieces on the shore of poetry.
