On a scale of one to 10 – one being a shameless pansy and 10 being Vladimir Putin – photojournalists rate a 9.5. Like modern day atrocity mongers, they scour the earth for tears of rage, clenched fists and burning flags, fearlessly shoving their cameras in places clever people judiciously avoid in order to expose every revolting shade of humanity to the unbearable light of their flash.
Each year The Walkley Awards celebrate the work of the best journalists in Australia, including that of photojournalists. Previously awarded photographic works include Craig Greenhill’s Cronulla-style train bashings and Angela Wylie’s race day panties shot. This year the ACP presents the freshly announced winners of the 2007 awards for your viewing pleasure. Uplifting? Probably not. Utterly compelling? For sure.
