Dying Breed

Why aren’t more horror films set in Australia? We’ve got a whole continent of eerie, isolated landscapes and our fair share of psychopaths too. Hell, a bunch of us are even descended from criminals – all compelling fodder for a film. Well, now we can breathe a sigh of relief, and then suck it straight back in with horror, as all of these elements are brought together. Set in Tasmania and starring Leigh Whannell (SAW), Nathan Phillips (WOLF CREEK) and a bunch of hostile rednecks, DYING BREED has just wowed audiences at the Tribeca and Fantasia Film Festivals and is premiering here just in time for Halloween. It could well be the DELIVERANCE of our generation, but bloodier and sans banjos. – JG
