Eels

Much like their underwater namesakes the Eels band can be slippery little suckers when it comes down to explaining exactly who they are. Essentially, the Eels consist of one very talented guy – Mark Oliver Everett, plus a revolving door of musicians that tour and play his songs. Live shows vary between a stripped back, intimate two-piece act, and full orchestral arrangement. The music itself is equally as elusive. It slithers across genres and moods. Being both melancholic and uplifting, often within the same song. With the only constants in this outfit being E’s hauntingly distinct voice and vivid expression, the Eels maybe difficult to define, but are easy to enjoy. – JG
