860 million people live in poverty in India. A number like that is enough to warrant forgetting soy lattes and skinny jeans for an evening and checking out photographer Rick Carter’s new exhibition, running to coincide with the UN’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17. Carter’s stills explore the vibrant colours and characters of rural and urban Indian streetscapes, focusing on women and their families working to lift themselves above poverty with dignity. All proceeds from the exhibition and book go to Opportunity International Australia’s India Program. Runs until Oct 28. – JB
