Yvette Coppersmith: The Opera Room

Description:
New media. Sure, we’d love to. Go digital wizards of the interwebs! Keep on shining, you crazy virtual diamonds, but while you do… painters like Melbourne’s Yvette Coppersmith will be keeping it real. Proving that the practised art of portraiture is very much still alive, the VCA grad works from life to capture life – in all of its gritty, expressive detail. Coppersmith’s last Sydney exhibition at Chalkhorse comprised a series of moody blue renderings of a boy dressed in jeans and what looks suspiciously like a chambray shirt. In this show, the artist continues her exploration of portraiture, with a new series of suspicions. – AM
