Everyone comes up with weird ways to save money. Ok, not everyone. Poor people. Like yours truly. Anyway, my favourite method is thus: when I see an item of clothing I like, if there is any fathomable way I could possibly attempt to try to make something similar myself, I’ll confidently state ‘I could make that’. I will place said item gently back on the rack, do my best to forget I have a credit card, and never actually sew myself anything because as it turns out, sewing is quite difficult.
Cue: Built By Wendy SEW U dress pattern book. If you’ve ever attempted to read a sewing pattern before, you’ll recall that it makes about as much sense as christening a raccoon. New York designer Wendy Mullin has cleverly addressed this problem by writing simple instructions even Stevie Wonder could understand.**The good woman has even included instructions on how to customise each pattern – between that and the Beci Orpin illustrations, it’s gonna be dress city, mother flippers.
NOTE: It’s not going to teach you how to make this or this, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for the next edition.
