TOP Issue 2
published on 27th July, 2010

When you’re writing about a magazine called TOP, it’s harder than it sounds to ignore the hundreds of ‘top’ puns trying to jump from your head to the page. When everyone featured in said zine is one of those extremely cool, talented, doing-awesome-things kind of people (read: tops) and excelling in it (read: at the top of their game) it makes it even harder. But I promise I’ll try from here on in.

TOP is a fashion, music and art focused publication hailing from Brooklyn with a neat lay-out and interviews with a great mix of on-the-mark creatives; Richard Nicoll, Optimo Sounds, Max Snow, Karen Elson, Pia Dehne, Jordan Askill and Risto Bimbiloski. In an inspired move TOP‘s interviews lead their subjects to address their inspirations and creative processes from childhood until now. Dehne starts with insight into her wild sounding childhood in the Alstadt and two-timing Wolfgang from Kraftwerk, while Snow gives us a lesson in skiving off community service. My favourite: a not so serious interview with Harmony Korine. If it doesn’t make you laugh then you’re far too grown up!

Plus, it’ll only set you back $4. Top that! (Sorry. Couldn’t resist.)
