A little while ago, my friends had their back walls painted by a bunch of local artists. Impressed by it all, I was like "who did that one?" and they said "Baden," like duh, everyone knows that.
Since that time, local Sydney artist Baden Pailthorpe has continued to hone his vision. Photography is now the medium, and this compilation comprises works from his recent travels. It is an intimate exploration of the self in unfamiliar locations, from France to Iran. **The works inside are at times haunting, ephemeral and often stunningly beautiful. All evoke the heightened perception experienced when travelling, and the sense of dislocation that makes a place feel either wonderful or frightening.
As the price suggests, this tome is not designed for quick consumption and a life unopened on the coffee table. With only 20 copies of TRANSLOCALITY made, the complex, thoughtfully packaged collection is there to be cherished.
