Bassike

While once confined to undershirt status, the white t-shirt has slowly climbed up the sartorial ladder. In the same way, the original “weekend classic” of blue jeans and white tee is now acceptable no matter what day of the week it is. Bassike, which started with just a collection of organic cotton t-shirts, are making their ascent up that same sartorial ladder.

At their first ever RAFW show this April they unveiled a very impressive SS10/11 collection featuring knits, denim, shirting and suiting as well as the usual genius basics. Adding to the classic white, this summer’s tee colours take lead from the Australian landscape in which designers Deborah Sams and Mary Lou Ryan have grown up – ivy green, khaki, blushed pink and nude. While their empire is growing and their range expanding, the designs remain true to that Bassike aesthetic: relaxed, uncomplicated and modern – total casual babe attire.

While I still love nothing more than pulling on jeans and a white t-shirt on a Sunday, at least I know that if Sunday night turns into Monday morning I’ll still be appropriately dressed. The store opens this Saturday and bassikely, you’ve gotta check it out.
