Central Coast Garage Sales
published on 16th May, 2010

You might think you know what garage sales are all about, but you don’t. Even if you followed that hefty trail in Bondi recently, you have no idea until you make the trek to the Central Coast.

There are literally too many garage sales to visit up there, and they’re on every Saturday. All you need to do is make a little map for yourself (hello Google!) and be prepared for some added conversation with your bargains, because old folks abound up there, and they sure are fond of a natter.

Step by step, this is what it looks like:

1. Head North early and pack, like $50. There’s no way you’ll need more than that.
2. Stop when you get to Woy Woy and pick up the local paper. Flip to the back pages and you’ll see a list of garage and ‘moving’ sales.
3. Make a map pin-pointing the ones that look good, and once you’re on the road prepare to stop often and suddenly, as home made signs will leap out at you all over the place.
4. Avoid signs that say ‘garage sale inside house’. Those ones are creepy.
5. Make friends with your garage sale hosts. We managed to procure a cup of tea, free cassette tapes, and an open invitation to come back ‘whenever the station wagon’s in the driveway’. Score!
