Pigeon Ground
published on 16th October, 2007

It’s a ‘beacon of pop culture in the suburban backstreets of Camperdown’. Literally. The closest pop-cul fix to Pigeon Ground is a Hello Kitty wrapper at the Newtown milkbar.

So why are they there, you ask? Four reasons: records, clothes, a secret squirrel and low rent. ‘Record guy’ Tim did an eight-year apprenticeship at the Rozelle markets before graduating in-store. Cloth aficionado Agatha is a practicing artist with a penchant for vintage dresses, dusty Levis, Hem & Haw and Princess Tina. While Bri and Andrew work part time as a florist and a muso and the rest of the time as Secret Squirrelers. Location is no barrier to Pigeon’s launch parties, which happen on a regular rotation in honour of new seasons and arty friends. The inner west cops got bigger fish to fry. Another reason we love ya Pigeon.
