Cooks River Motor Boat Club
published on 1st December, 2008

Screw astrophysics – time travel is as easy as a trip to Tempe.

Behind a mannequin shop on the Princess Highway, across from bobbing and rocking little tugs, sits the Cooks River Motor Boat Club – a haven for Sydney’s die-hard rockabilly and country enthusiasts. It’s a down-home, no frills bowling club-style joint with cheap beer and great atmosphere.

Country night runs Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. This is when you’re likely to see six inch D.A.s, cowboy shirts, ponytails and Capri pans, all having a boogie (and with some damn fine moves, might I add).**If you ain’t a die-hard devotee, fear not! In addition to the staunch revivalists you’ll find regular jeans and T-shirt folk of all ages and races, there for good music, cheap food, and a no-attitude night out. Damn I love Sydney sometimes.
