Hola Mexico Film Festival
published on 13th November, 2007

We could start this with something about tequila, crazy amigos or a hat dance. But come-on, Mexico is more than that right? Right.

Last year’s Hola Mexico Film Festival showed us that the country’s cinematic depth extends far deeper than our cousin’s ‘Chicas of Cancun’ doco filmed by camcorder en-route to the state of Tabasco.**The 2008 collection is bigger than last year’s EL SANTO VS THE VAMPIRE WOMEN. Seriously. ENLIGHTENED BLOOD is a head flipping flick about six characters who bizarrely share the same life and mutate into each other when their paths cross. Watch sober. Then there’s SOLO CON TU PAREJA from Alfonso Cuaron (who did CHILDREN OF MEN and Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN) which plots a sex junkie whose life changes when a jilted lover alters his med records from ‘healthy’ to ‘HIV positive’. It’s saucy, strange and a little politically incorrect. But it’s Mexico! Bueno.
