How to give good Facebook
published on 20th October, 2009

Let’s face it, not many people give good Facebook. I certainly don’t. The extent of my chat-mastery is a happy/sad/winking face. Not cool. To try and rectify this I called Facebook, and eventually they put me through to engineer Chris Putnam. Putnam, or ‘Stud’ as his colleagues call him, broke it down for me:

"The first thing you’ve got to realise is that emoticons like smiley faces are commonplace. Most of us graduated to love hearts [ <3 ] long ago. But why would you even bother when you can make say Jaws [ (^^^) ], a robot maybe [ :| ] ], or even me!? [ :putnam: ]"**"Once you’ve mastered these you’ll need to learn to express yourself better. You could SHOUT, for instance, or make corrctions
*corrections
Then there’s underlining [underlining] or writing in bold [ *bold*]. The possibilitIES aRe END-LESS!!!"

"But you’re not quite there. To become a true master you gotta head to this site and follow the directions. It’ll blow your goddamn mind!"

<3 you :putnam:
