As we said when tickets went on sale, we’re invested in this. This is because it’s not a standard “music festival” - música/TUMBALONG is really more the most epic gig of the year.
The aspect we really love is: it’s non-bro. The line-up is pretty precisely curated: debut Australian performances from internationals like SBTRKT (who we talked to last week), Tiger & Woods, Lunice, and Ghostpoet. Plus there’s an array of local champs: Bon Chat Bon Rat, New Navy, Mitzi and Electric Wire Hustle amongst others. They’re all playing full sets, so no junky five-song festival cameos. Like we said: gig.
Here’s the next really important bit: all the acts are in a single space, one after the other – SO THERE’LL BE NO CLASHES. Amazing. No one will experience that horrible moment of set-envy when the crowd at the next stage goes off and you’re standing next to the world’s most boring guy complaining about the beer selection to his crap mate.
It’s down by the breezy harbour, and you would’ve noticed the type-A Sydney weather this week. The usual Saturday plans of nursing a hangover with a B&E roll and reruns of Law & Order don’t seem as tempting now right?
