Night time bike hike
published on 4th May, 2010

Sydney is a city made for cars. It always has been. Well, possibly not always – I’m fairly sure horses and their respective carts were quite the rage at some point – but that was many moons ago. Nowadays, it is the car that owns the streets. This however, does not always bode well for those among us that like to hop on the ‘ol bicycle. But fear not pilgrims, for the solution is at hand! Casual observance shows that most driving enthusiasts go to bed around 10pm-12pm, which means EMPTY(ish) ROADS LATE AT NIGHT. Pretty rad, huh?

Riding at night comes with some obvious dangers, so take care. Dressing in fluoro will keep you visible. Donning a helmet might ruin your quiff, but it will also keep your brain in one piece – can’t style your hair if you’re not alive! Varying routes are available, all bound to be grand no matter where you go. Take some friends. Ride to a 24 hour Kmart. Explore a bit. Eat a bagel. If you’re still awake at sunrise, go to the seashore. The willpower required to self-propel wheels in the early morning might seem like a bit much, but it is well worth the effort. Trust me.
