Pub Cha
published on 14th December, 2008

When two phenomena collide in space and time, there sounds a boom. The liberal thinking folk at the Annandale have merged two such phenomena ‘the pub’ and ‘yum cha.’ These well matched coordinates, gleam contently in a new constellation west of city centre – at the rear of the Annandale Hotel.

Under the soft glaze of afternoon daylight, menus are pondered, check boxes are ticked and your order collected.  Be it green tea or a golden brew consumed in the brief chefing interim, the drinks flow freely. As bamboo steam baskets arrive filled with thai fusion bibelots and your ol’ favourite yum cha nibblets, you wonder why no-one has been clever enough to drop the ‘yum’ and add ‘pub’ before.**A session wouldn’t be complete without the softly steamed Har Gau (prawn and chive dumplings), tender BBQ beef and the wild-in-mouth experience of a chocolate drizzled banana roti.

Come January, this sensorial serenade will also offer an earful with the introduction of a disc-jockey to the space. Be it a hair of the dog tipple, pre gig eats, coffee or sun dazed natter you’re after, all bases are covered here. Stages and amps aside, the Annandale guised as match-maker has introduced an unlikely couple and now watches on proudly as the romance spawns.
