Sitting at home, under the doona, watching grainy docos about Joy Division and The Clash on DVD is a boon. But it also makes one wonder why Australia hasn’t moved to capture its own music on grainy film (excluding the endless Farnsie “goodbye” tours). Fret not – a couple of guys from Melbourne have done it.**It took Matt Richards and Jeremy Rouse from Trainwreck 20/20 three Super 8 cameras over four years to interview and capture the live energy of 12 bands, including My Disco, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Die! Die! Die!. The resulting, SUPER 8 DIARIES is a reflection of Australian music at its rawest.
This week SUPER 8 DIARIES launches in Sydney, with live bands including Tucker B’s, Ohana, Charge Group, Castings, QUA, When Chimps Attack, Lola Flash, Do Not Resuscitate, and Alps Of NSW. There’s also a BBQ, photography exhibition, screening of the documentary, raffle, and a free beer with each DVD sold. Marketing genius. – VH
