We Are The Image Makers Presents 12×12
published on 17th July, 2007

Collective nouns are fun: A ‘rainbow’ of hippies, a ‘compact’ of beauticians, a ‘matinee’ of nannas – the list goes on. But what works for ‘artists’? A smudge? A patcholi? Or the common referrer: a collective?**On top of being frequently dishevelled and outspoken, artists could be the definitive collective noun. They are a collective in themselves, and on the local scene, it rarely gets more definitive than the 12×12 crew. Confused much? Let us explain.**12×12 brings together a local ‘collective’ of artists whose names you probably know. Sydney’s Ben Frost who survived near death in Beijing, Brisbane’s Dyzla, Melbourne’s Reka of the Everfresh Studio crew and Perth’s Yok who’s down with the Wooster Collective are taking part among another seven (which equals 12) who will split their work over 12 – 12×12" canvases. A spaceship of Scientologists couldn’t keep us from opening night. OK we’ll stop.
