It’s only Rock n roll (but I like it)…
Strut your stuff Jagger-style at the AGNSW’s screening of Gimme Shelter. A documentary directed by David Maysles, Albert Maysles & Charlotte Zwerin, it’s been called "the greatest rock film of the greatest rock and roll band". And we have to agree.
Following the Rolling Stones ‘family’ of roadies, groupies, yes men and managers during their 1969 world tour, Gimme Shelter culminates in the Altamont Free Concert, where The Stones headline alongside Ike & Tina Turner, Jefferson Airplane, The Flying Burrito Brothers and Santana.**Capturing the heaving throb of long haired, long legged groupies and rockers alike – not to mention Jagger’s collection of capes – Gimme Shelter sounds like rock ‘n’ roll heaven, right? Wrong. A Hell’s Angels ‘security’ team causes the concert to go down in history for all the wrong reasons. You won’t be disappointed.
If you wanna hit two birds with one (rolling) stone, also check out Video Swell where The Kingpins’ Welcome to the Jingle video installation will be rockin’ out too. Remember, what goes on tour, stays on tour…
